How wash and fold pickup works in South Florida, what to look for in a service, and when a monthly membership beats paying per order.
South Florida is a hard place to do laundry. Half the rentals have no machines. The buildings that do have them have three for the whole property, and one is always out of order. It's humid enough that a damp towel left in a bag overnight will let you know about it. And the laundromat parking lot on a Sunday tells you everything about how everyone else is handling it.
Pickup and delivery exists because of all of that. Here's how it actually works and how to choose a service.
How pickup works
You book a window
Most services let you pick a morning or evening slot online. Two minutes, no phone call.
You leave the bag
At your door, with the front desk, wherever works. You don't need to be home. If you don't have a bag, the driver brings one.
It gets washed and sorted
Whites, colors and delicates separated. Ask whether your laundry is washed on its own or combined with other customers' — this is the single most important question and a lot of services are vague about it.
It comes back folded
Ours returns in 24 to 48 hours depending on the size of the load. Larger loads take longer, which is just how machines work.
What to check before you pick a service
Service area, precisely
"South Florida" covers a lot of ground. Confirm your specific city and, in a condo, whether they'll come to your floor or meet you in the lobby.
How they handle humidity
Clothes that sit damp in a Florida truck come back smelling like it. Ask about turnaround and how items are stored between wash and delivery.
Pricing structure
Per pound with a minimum, or a flat membership? Both are legitimate. What you don't want is a per-pound price with pickup charges layered on top that only appear at checkout.
What happens with a problem
Stains that didn't come out, a missing sock, a shirt that shouldn't have been dried. Ask what the process is before you need it.

Per order or membership
Both work; they suit different households.
Per order fits irregular volume. Bedding at the change of season, a catch-up load after travel, laundry while your machine is out. You pay only when you send something.
A membership fits steady volume. Ghost Members is $95 every 4 weeks for up to 50 lbs a month, with anything over at $2 a lb, unlimited pickups and a 24 to 48 hour turnaround. The unlimited pickups are what make it work in practice — a small bag on Tuesday and another on Friday costs the same as one big Sunday haul, so you stop rationing.
The rough break-even is two orders a month. Below that, stay per order.
A note for condo and HOA residents
If you're in a building with shared machines, check the laundry room policy before you assume you need a service. Some buildings have added their own pickup arrangements. And if your building has a package room or concierge, tell us — it's usually the easiest handoff point and means you never have to be home.
Getting started
Book a window online, leave the bag, get it back folded. If you're not sure whether the membership or per-order pricing fits your household, count last month's loads first. If you sent laundry once, pay per order. If you sent it four times, the membership is almost certainly cheaper.
