How to Clean Golf Clothes in Ponte Vedra (and What Not to Dry Clean)

Performance polos, sunscreen collars, grass on the knees and a $10-an-item price list. What golf clothing actually needs, and where dry cleaning is a waste of money.

Ponte Vedra produces a specific laundry pile. Performance polos, five days a week. Golf pants with grass on one knee. A collar line of sunscreen that no amount of ordinary washing seems to shift. A quarter-zip that lives in the car. And, in the closet, one or two pieces that genuinely need a dry cleaner.

The useful skill is telling those apart, because the two mistakes cost real money in opposite directions: dry cleaning a technical polo at ten dollars a time, and putting a wool-blend jacket through a hot wash once.

What should never be dry cleaned

Modern golf apparel is mostly polyester, nylon and elastane — engineered to wick moisture and dry fast. Dry cleaning solvent does nothing useful to those fibres, and repeated cleaning can degrade the elastane that gives a shirt its stretch and recovery.

So: performance polos, technical trousers and shorts, base layers, compression wear and golf socks all belong in a cool wash, not at a dry cleaner. That is wash & fold at $45 for up to 15 lbs, then $2.50 a pound — a week of golf clothes is comfortably inside the first fifteen pounds.

If what bothers you is that they come back folded rather than hanging, Wash & Press exists for exactly that: $65 for up to 15 lbs, then $4.50 a pound, clothing returned on hangers, in 24 to 72 hours. It is the right answer for someone who wants crisp shirts without paying per item.

What genuinely needs a dry cleaner

Wool, silk, structured tailoring, anything with interfacing or shoulder pads, and anything whose label says dry clean only and is not a plain cotton knit. In a golf wardrobe that usually means a club blazer, a wool-blend sweater, a cashmere pullover, or the jacket you keep for dinners at the clubhouse.

In the Ponte Vedra zone those are priced per item: a suit jacket is $15, a 2-piece suit $25, pants $12, a polo or dress shirt $10, a blouse or skirt $15, a dress $20, a coat $36. No minimum — one blazer is a valid order.

Some pieces are not on the standard grid at all: a technical quarter-zip, a rain shell, a down vest, a leather headcover. Rather than inventing a price, we quote those at pickup once we have seen the garment and the label. If it turns out the piece should simply be washed, we will tell you that instead of charging per-item for work it does not need.

The four stains that matter here

Sunscreen on collars and cuffs

The most common stain in this zip code and the most misunderstood. Avobenzone reacts with iron in water and leaves a yellow-orange cast that gets worse — not better — with hot water and chlorine bleach. Point it out at pickup so it is treated before the wash rather than baked in by it.

Grass

A plant dye, not a grease. It responds to enzymes and to prompt treatment, and it sets hard once it has been through a dryer. A grass-stained knee that has been tumbled dry twice is often permanent, which is an argument for sending the trousers this week rather than next month.

Sweat and salt

Salt crystallises in the fibres and, left in a closed bag in a Florida car, starts to smell. Technical fabrics hold odour more than cotton does because the fibres are hydrophobic. These need a proper wash cycle, not a solvent, and they should not sit damp for two days before pickup.

Clay, sand and bunker grit

Mechanical rather than chemical: it has to be flushed out, which is why we run a 40-minute cycle with a separate rinse instead of one quick pass. Shake out what you can before the bag goes out.

What a golf week actually costs

Say five rounds: five polos, three pairs of trousers or shorts, socks, base layers, a towel. That is around eight to ten pounds.

  • Wash & fold: $45, back in 24–48 hours, folded.
  • Wash & Press: $65, back in 24–72 hours, on hangers.
  • Dry cleaned item by item: five polos at $10 and three pairs of pants at $12 is $86 — for clothes that did not need solvent.

If golf clothes are a weekly event rather than a holiday, Ghost Members is $95 every 4 weeks for 50 lbs with unlimited pickups, then $2 a pound. Two rounds of golf a week and a household will clear that allowance; one round a month will not, and we will say so rather than sell you a plan.

A short routine that works

  1. Do not let the bag sit damp in the car. Salt and sweat get harder to remove and the smell sets in.
  2. Keep performance fabrics out of the dryer where you can — heat is what kills elastane, not washing.
  3. Send grass and sunscreen marks the same week, and say what they are at pickup.
  4. Keep the blazer, the wool sweater and anything structured for the per-item dry cleaning list.
  5. Mix it all in one bag. We separate at collection and price each piece under the right service.

FAQ — golf clothing in Ponte Vedra

Should I dry clean performance golf polos?

No. Polyester and elastane blends gain nothing from solvent and can lose stretch. Wash them cool. Choose Wash & Press at $65 for up to 15 lbs if you want them returned on hangers rather than folded.

Can you get sunscreen stains out of a collar?

Often, if you point them out at pickup so they are treated before the wash. Avobenzone yellowing gets worse with hot water and chlorine bleach, so an untreated hot wash can make it permanent.

How much is a golf polo dry cleaned, if I want it dry cleaned anyway?

$10 in the Ponte Vedra zone, the same as a dress shirt. There is no minimum order.

What about a quarter-zip or a rain jacket?

Those are not on the standard per-item grid. We quote them at pickup once we have seen the garment and its label, and if the right answer is simply to wash it, we will tell you.

Do you serve the TPC Sawgrass area?

Yes — Sawgrass, Marsh Landing, Palm Valley, Nocatee and the rest of Ponte Vedra Beach, plus Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville Southside. Add your gate code when you book.

How fast can I get golf clothes back?

Wash & fold is 24 to 48 hours. Same-Day Wash & Fold is $65 for up to 15 lbs, then $2.75 a pound, picked up in the morning and back that evening. Dry cleaning is never same-day.

Rule of thumb: if it wicks, wash it. If it is wool, silk or structured, dry clean it. Wash & fold $45 up to 15 lbs · Wash & Press $65 up to 15 lbs, on hangers · dry cleaning from $10 an item, no minimum.
